There are three main areas to stay. The town center has accommodations around the main square and along the lagoon, including hostels, boutique hotels, and budget friendly options. Close to the restaurants and shops of the town center, this area is ideal for those looking to stay close to the action. To the north, there are more secluded luxury hotels and bungalows on the water. In the south, near Bacalar’s cenotes, you’ll also find waterfront stays with a more secluded feel; you can find eco-hotels and cabanas, with a rustic and natural vibe.

Surrounded by nature, it’s an ideal place to unwind and enjoy a quieter atmosphere. However, staying here means traveling into the town center for dining, shopping, and other amenities, making it better suited for those who don’t mind a short trip for more options.

BACALAR SOUTH/
CENOTES
Cenotes and nature in the south of Bacalar...
The southern part of Bacalar features several cenotes, including Cenote Esmeralda, Cenote Azul, and Cenote Cocalitos. This area, located south of the town center, is primarily made up of eco-hotels and cabanas with a rustic, natural atmosphere. Many of these lagoon-front accommodations offer great swimming and kayaking while being outside the main town. It’s a more secluded and laid-back setting.
Like the northern accommodations, staying in the south requires a trip into the town center for dining, shopping, and other amenities, making it a better fit for those who don’t mind a short ride for more options.
